Our reflexologists (Georgie, Holly and Kristi) have undertaken several courses relating to reflexology for fertility, including the Association of Reproductive Reflexologists’ Reproflexology™ training. This very specific training allows them to work with all kinds of fertility issues, including pre-conception care, natural and assisted conception, and with both women and men.
For men, we provide a Male Fertility Assessment. This is a semen analysis which determines the current status of your sperm health, including count, motility, morphology, pH, etc. We also include an oxidative stress test, as high oxidative stress levels can affect your ability to conceive. Results are given immediately, and provide a lot more detail than NHS testing. You can do the sample at home but it must be brought to our clinic within 1 hour for analysis.
Reflexology can be really helpful when you are trying to conceive as it
gets the body (and hormones) back into a state of equilibrium
reduces levels of stress, and allows a state of deep relaxation
works the reflexes relating to the reproductive organs to balance and clear congestion
boosts blood circulation to the reproductive areas
encourages all the systems of the body to function efficiently
These are all essential factors in conceiving and maintaining a healthy pregnancy.
We use a fantastic reflexology technique which works on all the endocrine glands and the hormones they produce. This is especially relevant for the fertility hormones (luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, oestrogen and progesterone), the stress hormones (adrenaline and cortisol) and the thyroid hormone (thyroxine). Reflexology often helps in regulating the length of menstrual cycle, menstrual flow, reduction of pain and even bringing back periods which have been absent for some time. There are several different forms of fertility treatments (IVF, ICSI and IUI) or ART procedures as well as drug treatments (clomid) or egg/sperm donation. We all have a great deal of experience of working with clients going through various different fertility treatments. It can be a very stressful and emotional time, and can be draining both physically and mentally. The calming and balancing effects of reflexology can help enormously and can also complement the medical procedures. It will help to prepare the body to be in optimum health before the treatment is started.
Our specialised training means we can work all the way through medicated cycles using treatment protocols that work to enhance the medications’ efficacy. So for instance, if you are in the stimulating phase, we would be using techniques to mimic and enhance what the drugs are doing eg stimulating the uterus reflex to increase blood flow to help thicken the lining of the endometrium, etc. Reflexology can help to prepare your uterus so that the environment for embryo transfer is as favourable as possible. It can also be done a few days after embryo transfer to help with implantation. We concentrate a lot on relaxation techniques so that your whole body and mind is able to switch off and relax deeply. In this sense, a reflexology treatment is the complete opposite of the highly clinical process you are going through with IVF.
Reflexology is great during the early stages of pregnancy as well. We use a technique to stimulate the ovaries which keeps progesterone levels up. Falling progesterone levels can be a cause of early miscarriage, so this helps to prevent that, as well as reducing any anxiety you may be feeling.
Please get in touch with us if you are interested in trying reflexology for fertility, or go ahead and book online. We will send you a questionnaire to complete before your initial consultation. This appointment lasts for 2 hours, which gives us time to go through your fertility and medical history, give you an information pack with tips on how to enhance your fertility, and give you a full reflexology treatment. We can also advise on Basal Body Temperature charting, and analyse any blood or semen analysis results you may have had. It doesn't matter where you are in your menstrual cycle, as we adapt the treatment accordingly. We suggest at least 4 treatments at weekly intervals to start with, so that we are working with your hormones at different times in your cycle. We would then review your situation and reduce treatments, usually to twice a month.
